PUM.Optional.NoDrives

Short bio

This is the detection of a potentially unwanted modification (PUM) on the registry that removes icons representing drives from My Computer and Windows Explorer. This change also causes drive letters representing drives to not appear in the Open dialog box.

System modification

The following registry value data is modified:

Under
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\
CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer

From:
NoDrives=0

To:
NoDrives={number from 1 to 26}

Remediation

Malwarebytes can modify this registry value data back to its Windows default setting without user interaction.

Also, we advise users to do a full system scan as PUM.Optional.NoDrives could have been added to the system by malware or PUP.
