A dishonest scheme; a fraud. In cybersecurity, scams are performed by a dishonest individual, group, or organization mostly over the Internet (though sometimes on the phone) in an attempt obtain money or something else of value.

Scam artists traditionally use confidence tricks, where an individual misrepresents themselves as someone with skill or authority, i.e. a Microsoft technician or an antivirus company. Scams on the Internet include phishing, tech support scams, spoofing, social media scams, and more.
