Another week, another round-up of news and breaking stories!
On the Malwarebytes Unpacked blog, I looked at some phone numbers in circulation tied to so-called “Vishing” scams. This is where a scammer uses the telephone to phish user details from an unsuspecting victim, often with dire financial consequences.
Elsewhere, we had a Linkedin profile claiming to be a retired Army General deploying a 419 scam. Is this part of a new and possibly rather weird trend?
Finally, we dug into some of the scare messages you might see on your travels while using an Android device.
Notable news stories:
- Using Wi-Fi to survive the zombie apocalypse. Also helpful: being called Daryl and / or owning books written by Max Brooks.
- Third-party Snapchat site claims photos were hacked from server. This one is still unfolding and more details are sure to emerge, but a large leak of photographs the picture takers assumed would vanish after a short space of time is never going to end well.
- What is your E-Book reader doing? You may want to check out the EULA before firing it up, and making sure you’re comfortable with data sent and received.
- Dairy Queen hit by Backoff Malware. Yet another attack involving credit and debit cards being compromised. Backoff Malware has been a problem for some time now, and will no doubt appear again in some future breach.
